integration for HRBench

Gusto reporting and people intelligence

HRBench connects to Gusto and turns your payroll, benefits, and people data into 45+ ready-made metrics, then adds the workforce benchmarks and predictive metrics Gusto does not. Your team gets exec-ready workforce reporting without exporting Gusto data to spreadsheets or standing up a BI tool.

Why Gusto teams bring in HRBench

  • Gusto is built as an all-in-one small business platform, and its reporting reflects that. Teams consistently hit limits on custom fields and multi-period comparisons, so real analysis moves into exported spreadsheets. HRBench reads your Gusto data and delivers 45+ workforce metrics as ready-made reporting, with no exports or cleanup.
  • Gusto benchmarks pay using its own payroll data, but it cannot tell you how your turnover and retention compare to other companies. HRBench adds external workforce benchmarks, so your numbers carry outside context instead of just an internal trend line.
  • Gusto shows what already happened. It has no predictive layer, so there is no flight-risk or turnover forecast to act on early. HRBench adds 25+ predictive metrics that flag where attrition and cost are heading.
  • Reviewers point to a reporting ceiling as teams grow past roughly 100 to 150 employees, the point where many move off Gusto for stronger reporting. HRBench gives growing teams that depth on top of the Gusto they already run, including workforce benchmarks and PE portfolio rollup for backed companies.

What a Gusto shop builds with HRBench

  • Headcount and org structure across companies, departments, locations, and teams, with growth and turnover trends over time.
  • Turnover and retention by department, location, manager, and tenure band, so you can see where people leave and how fast.
  • Fully-loaded labor cost from actual Gusto payroll, broken out by department and location, including earnings and employer benefit spend.
  • Pay equity and compensation analysis on real pay data rather than survey estimates, to check for gaps across roles and groups.
  • Benefits enrollment and participation, including which plans employees choose and what employer benefit spend looks like by group.
  • Engagement measured with HRBench surveys, then tied back to turnover and pay so you can see what actually moves retention.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you don't find the information you're looking for, please don't hesitate to contact us directly, and our team will be happy to assist you.

01

Does HRBench integrate with Gusto?

Yes. HRBench connects to Gusto and syncs your people, payroll, and benefits data automatically, then turns it into 45+ ready-made workforce metrics. There is no report building, spreadsheet export, or separate BI tool to run.

02

What Gusto data does HRBench read?

HRBench reads employee and employment records, company and location structure, groups and teams, compensation and payroll (earnings, deductions, pay runs, and taxes), and benefit enrollment and employer benefit plans. It does not read Gusto time-off balances, absence events, or timecard hours, and it does not read Gusto hiring or applicant data. Your metrics cover people, pay, and benefits.

03

What can HRBench measure from Gusto data?

HRBench measures headcount and growth, turnover and retention, tenure, org and span-of-control structure, fully-loaded labor cost by department and location, pay equity, and benefits enrollment. Because Gusto time-off and timecard data does not sync, HRBench does not report absence, PTO liability, or hours-worked metrics from Gusto.

04

Does HRBench replace Gusto reporting?

No. HRBench sits on top of Gusto. You keep running payroll, benefits, and HR in Gusto. HRBench reads that data and adds the workforce reporting layer Gusto was not built for: 45+ metrics, external benchmarks, engagement surveys, and predictive analytics, all without exports or a BI tool.

05

Does HRBench work with Gusto Payroll, Benefits, and HR?

Yes. Gusto is one connected platform, and HRBench reads across Gusto Payroll, Gusto Benefits, and Gusto HR through a single connection. Whether your data sits in payroll, benefits administration, or the core people records, HRBench pulls it into one workforce reporting view.

06

Can HRBench show our labor cost from Gusto?

Yes. Because Gusto syncs full payroll data, HRBench builds fully-loaded labor cost from actual earnings, deductions, and employer benefit spend, not estimates. You can see cost by department, location, and team, and track it as headcount changes. HRBench does not use Gusto timecard hours, since Gusto does not sync them, so labor cost is based on actual pay rather than hours worked.

07

Can HRBench show how our Gusto numbers compare to other companies?

Yes, and it is a common reason Gusto teams add HRBench. Gusto benchmarks pay ranges using its own payroll data, but it does not show how your turnover, retention, or headcount growth compare to peer companies. HRBench includes external workforce benchmarks, so you can see whether your attrition or growth is normal for your size and industry or a problem worth acting on.

08

Does HRBench include engagement surveys with Gusto data?

Yes. Every HRBench customer gets engagement surveys included, and results tie directly to your Gusto data. You can connect engagement scores to turnover, tenure, pay, and department, so you see not just how people feel but what it costs you when they leave. Gusto offers basic pulse surveys, while HRBench links engagement to the rest of your workforce metrics.

09

How long does it take to connect Gusto to HRBench?

Full HRBench deployment takes about 4 to 6 weeks, and smaller teams are often faster. That covers connecting Gusto, validating your data, and setting up your metrics, benchmarks, and surveys. You are not standing up a data warehouse or a BI project.
